Do you ever feel like there is not enough time in the day for surfing and skydiving? Well, if so your problems may have been resolved. Skysurfing is the pastime you are looking for, jump out of an aeroplane with a small surfboard strapped to your feet and away you go. Pull off your favourite surfing moves without ever getting wet. Sound good? Then you qualify to read on.....
Step one
Wakeboard Binding
Now, don't just go diving out of a plane with your board strapped on, you need to be an experienced skydiver to take this on. The sport is a form of freestyle skydiving and you must be fit to try it, Learn as much as you can about skysurfing through parachuting and air sports websites and pick up some books about the subject to educate yourself as much as possible.
Step two
You need a skydiving licence and therefore be a jump master. To get this you need to have taken part in competitions, done group freefalls, water jumps and be able to pack your own parachute. So as you can tell you need a bit of experience to do this and if you haven't got this yet you have some work to do before you get to step three....
Step three
Even if you have the necessary licence and the experience mentioned in step two, you should take some specific skysurfing training. Skysurfing novices should get coaching in freeflying safety and techniques and should also be coached in head-down and sit-flying. To put it bluntly you need to know exactly what you are doing when you are performing crazy surf tricks while careering towards earth at 100mph.
Step four
This is kind of covered in step two and three but I had to put one easy step in after the last two! If you haven't skydived for a while make sure your skydiving skills are up to scratch, you need to make sure you can still do all those basics, moving up, down, left , right, rotating, take part in formations and stay separate from other fliers when you want too.
Step five
Don't forget this one or else you may look a bit silly when you are going jump out the plane with all your skyboarding buddies... you need to get a board. They are a bit like snowboards, between 35 and 60 inches long. You'll also need the bindings a quick release system and a recovery chute for it. The rest of the equipment you will already have being a top notch sky diver so I won't remind you of that.
Step six
Put the kit on, jump out of a plane, pull off some dirty moves then pull your parachute cord. Job done.
