Features of a Wakeboard

The wakeboard is used for a water sport called Wakeboarding. This water sport requires the person to ride a wakeboard over the surface of the water. Wakeboarding is designed in a manner to form a perfect blend of water skiing, snow - boarding and surfing.

Wakeboard Binding

The wakeboard is light in weight and the centre of the board is made of foam. The bindings and fins are fixed on to the board with the help of metal screws. Few of the well known wake boards are Liquid Force, Ronix, O'brien and CWB.

Wakeboard Binding

The arrangement of the fins and bindings depends on the rider, as the arrangement facilitates various stunts. For example, Flat spins can be done with shallow fins. The hardware of the wakeboard is designed to allow the rider to keep either foot ahead while riding a Switch or Fakie.

The bend in the wakeboard from the apex to the end is known as the rocker. The smooth curve which remains the same throughout is the continuous rocker while the curve with two bend points is the three - stage rocker. The continuous rockers allows the wakeboard to travel faster through the water, while the three - stage rocker supports higher jumps off the water.

Over the years, the riders have found the board either too big or too small. The size of the wakeboard is the key factor in deciding the style of riding. Smaller wakeboards gives the rider a feeling of lightness. A smaller wakeboard spins faster and vigorously, and also makes the perfect landing uncomfortable. A larger wakeboard provides a smoother and more comfortable style.

The width of a wakeboard decides how high it sits in the water. The width of the wake board can be checked at its apex and ends. The turns of the board become vigorous in case of a narrow apex and end. For better surface tricks and spins, wider tips and tails are used. If the center of the wake board is wider, the higher it will sit in the water and will also bounce harder.

The design of the bottom of the wake board expresses the shaper's style. The performance of the wakeboard is highly dependent on the width and shape from tip to tail, fin arrangement and rocker. Concaves constitute the lift required to allow the wake board to settle itself higher in the water. Various outcomes can be witnessed by the combination of single and double concaves.

The release of the wakeboard from the wake depends on the placement of the fins. The board releases itself easily if the fins are allocated closely to towards the central part of the wake board. Farther the fins results in the board being hooked to the wake.

Long based fins are used to give the wake board a feeling like that of a snowboard and to hold up better on rails and ramps. Multi - finned setups have a good grip over the edge and sails aggressively through the water. And, some riders say professionals prefer riding a board without fins.
